“Now if either of you says ’war’ just one more time--” the voice of Vivian Leigh filled the vacant Cullen house. Seated on a sofa, gold eyes fixated on the large plasma screen, was Jasper Whitlock Hale. His stocking feet were crossed at the ankles, and resting atop the coffee table. He was slouched, rather uncharacteristically in his seat, head lulling back against the back of their white leather sofa. His blonde hair was messy, extraordinarily so, and hanging in his eyes. But Jasper didn’t seem to be bothered by it. His arms were folded loosely across his abs, and made no move to comb his hair out of his eyes.
When Scarlett ran off, holding her skirts up about her knee’s, a slight smile touched Jasper’s lips. One of the reasons he liked this show, was because it brought back the faint memories of his own childhood. He remembered so little of it by this point. So much had happened since those days. Jasper had been a leader in two different armies, fought in two wars…seen the world. He’d also killed people without the excuse of war to hide behind. It was refreshing to be able to forget all of that, and remember a time when he’d been human, innocent, young, changing. These were the days he’d grown up in. This was the human world that was fading from his knowledge. Women in hoop skirts, corsets, slavery, a country divided, civil war.
Then the movie went on to the barbeque. Jasper had met women like Scarlett, few though they were. There had been some women who fought the norm, and wore what they pleased. He’d even seen one in Volterra who hadn’t a problem wandering about in her underclothing. She hadn’t seen it as disgraceful, even if it did bother everyone around her. Well, everyone but Lord Marcus…Scarlett reminded him of that girl. Both so strong willed, so free spirited, and willing to go after whatever they wanted. Though Scarlett was far more manipulative than she.
Back in his day, Jasper had been the one escorting his cousin about, while their families planned their marriage. He’d never longed to be the one chasing about the girl they all wanted, and would never have. Jasper had been content with what he’d been given. Part of him knew he wanted someone. But he didn’t feel as if anyone around him was the one he was looking for. That feeling had never left him. Not even after he’d been changed. It had taken nearly a century before Jasper found the girl he’d been looking for, and he had never left her side since. He’d followed her to the Olympic peninsula. He had joined a family of vampires, began living a new life, changed everything about himself…and he had never regretted it.

“I WANT TO BREAK FREE…I WANT TO BREAK FREE” Alice sung brightly at the top of her voice, as she sped down the clouded roads between Port-Angeles and her home outside Forks. She had taken the chance of Edward being distracted with the recent developments in Italy, as a chance to sneak out her yellow car. For though she had earned it back, Alice was still banned from driving it round town, because apparently Edward thought it was too flashy. Like anybody was going to guess what she was, because she drove a pretty car, she thought quietly to herself as the song broke into the course again, and she was distracted by sheer enjoyment.
With a loud screech Alice pulled into the drive-way, and zoomed off down the narrow road to her family home. It was a bumpy road, and that combined with her ridiculous speed she was moving at, it sent the car swerving this way and that. To any normal person they may have let off the speed a little, but Alice was in her own little world singing along to her radio, not to mention she could see she was going to make her. Her little talent told her that, so she just carried on driving on like maniac her car flying this way and that underneath her. However in the moment, she was really glad Bella had turned her idea for a shopping trip, her little comments really would have spoiled her fun.
No more than two minutes Alice’s fun was officially was over, as she pulled neatly into the Cullen garage, turning off the car sending her personal area into silence for the first time in a while. Well nearly silence, as she could hear the TV playing in the living room, though she had expected it. Not because could see her true love watching TV the whole journey back, but the TV was always on in their home, so the noise it emitted had become like backing noise to their lives. So Alice did not take all that much notice of it, climbing out of her with natural grace, she grabbed her bags and danced into the house.
Pausing for a moment at the mouth of the stairs, she thought about joining Jasper, though with a vision of major creases forming in the newly purchased clothes sent her running to her room on the first floor. Quickly unravelling them Alice set them into four neat piles. One for her and Jasper, another for Esme and Carlisle, the next for Rosalie and Emmett, and finally a small pile for Edward, with a pretty blue dressed tucked in for Bella. Seeing Bella in it in her head made the temptation far to much to ignore, and leaving it with Edward she hoped he might get it on her some how. That or Alice would force it upon her when she stayed another night, because she would accidentally forget to pick up some clothes for her the next day.
Picking each pile up with care, she raced from each room for each couple hanging them in their wardrobes for them to find one day. It was just how their family worked, they all worried about not being discovered, and she worried about what they all wore, because going out in the wrong style clothing was a scandal to Alice. Pleased with her achievements as she shut the door to Edwards’s room, she hop skipped and jumped down the two flights of stairs, and round the corner into the living room her copper eyes landed on Jasper. To her eyes he looked so cute, even if he stood over six-foot and looked generally intimating, he always looked cute as a button to Alice. Though with his hair disarray and his body all sprawled out her looked cuter than ever, and she could not help but smirk at him.
“Major Jasper Whitlock, what would your commanding officer say if he saw you like this” she teased, falling into the space next to him.

The familiar rumble of an engine filled his ears. When he looked out the window, Jasper’s golden eyes fell on a yellow Porsche that was weaving it’s way up the dirt path leading to their house. It was common knowledge that no car accident would hurt Alice in the least. Even if she was driving like a nut, going too fast to safely make her way up their gravel driveway, she wouldn’t get hurt. The Porsche could warp around a tree, and Alice would still walk away from it. Never the less, his eyebrows furrowed together with worry. He watched as the yellow car got bigger, closer, then moved into the garage. The rumble of the garage door lowering filled his ears as soon as Alice cut off the engine to her car.
He found it amusing that Edward was against her driving her car around town, even though everyone already knew she had it. All it took for word to spread through Forks was one person seeing it. People always caught sight of Alice as she left town in her yellow Porsche, thus the entire town knew about the car. It was a useless percaution. Everyone already knew their family had money. Dr Cullen was a doctor, all the girls wore designer clothing…they were far from inconspicuous. Then there was the matter of Rosalie’s BMW. They could pretend to be the same, but everyone knew better than to actually believe it.
A soft click sounded, falling on Jasper’s sensitive ears as the door joining the garage and house closed. There was a soft rustling of bags, footsteps, her scent filling the house--Alice had been shopping, and Jasper knew her well enough to know that even if she wanted to come join him, she wouldn’t be able to leave new clothes in their bags to crease. She’d have to put them away first. He turned his gaze away from the doorway, back to the TV, smiling as he head the sound of Alice moving up the stairs towards their bedroom. The soft pattering of her feet could be heard moving around the floor above, from room to room, likely putting away various articles of clothing.
Jasper’s attention remained fixed on the television until Alice once more descended the stairs, and moved into the doorway of their living room. He smiled at her, instantly forgetting that he was mad at her for driving so carelessly. The simple joy that filled Alice washed over Jasper. It was easy to tell when something was wrong in her world. Whenever something was upsetting Alice, Jasper could fell the disturbance in that joy. But now, there was nothing. When the small female fell into the seat next to him, Jasper hooked an arm around her shoulders, and another beneath her knee’s. He pulled her legs across his lap, tucking her carefully into his side. As soon as anyone else in their family came home, Jasper would put some space between them. It was only proper after all. But now they were alone, and he was more than welcome to display his affections more boldly than he usually did.
“I do believe they’d be quite concerned with my choice of entertainment.” Jasper responded, and settled his chin atop Alice’s head. He breathed in the scent of her hair, burying his nose in it as he did. “Did you have fun shopping?” He inquired, resisting the urge to comment on her driving. Alice already thought him terribly overprotective. There was no need to make that image of him worse in her eyes. Even if she did love him despite such traits, Jasper didn’t wish her to constantly be reminded of his less rational worries.

If there was one thing Alice loved more that Jasper, was the effect she had on him, or at least the effect her emotions had on him. Ever since he had taken her hand all those years ago, her positive emotions had always had a good effect on him and Alice loved that. To see him smile always made her swell inside making her joyful emotions rise, not to mention love. Alice loved to see him smile; it was a rare thing and was more like their secret smile shared only between them, and when he wore he felt like her Jasper more than ever. Though she loved him whatever he did or whatever expression was on his face, as their emotional connection was too strong to break, it seemed to get stronger when he smiled.
No sooner had her bottom touched the sofa, than Jasper had moved her on to his lap. It came as not shock to her as she had seen it coming, and was more than happy to be placed carefully onto his lap. Like the smile, this was another thing they did in private, as Jasper was not a huge fan of public displays of affection. It was just not the done thing in his time, and Alice knew nothing of real relationships apart from what Jasper had shown her, so she always followed suit. Which suited her just fine, she did not need kisses or sweet nothings to know that his love was there, Alice could see it and she knew Jasper could feel it. It was their unspoken connection.
Fitting nicely into his arm Alice nostrils flared slightly to take in his scent, as she began to pick at a loose thread on his shirt as she enjoyed his scent. It was one of those things –like the TV- that was always there, hanging about in the air along with the scents of the rest of the family. Though when they where so closely embraced, it was more potent and Alice could not ignore its effects on her emotions. It made her feel secure, protected and loved all in one sniff. All it took was one little sniff, and she felt like she could conquer the world. In all honestly the smell reminded her of how she felt when she had first smelt it and all the possibilities of their future excited her senses, and Alice doubted that feeling would ever change.
“Lucky for you that source of entertainment has changed, think they would approve of me” she joked picking up one of his hands, and playing with in hers. A simple gesture, but she was to comfortable rested against his chest to move to give him quick kiss, or an innocent nose graze. “I certainly did” she continued “however I think the drive home might have topped it though, I do love it when Edward is distracted, means Alice can play.” Laughing lightly, she looked up at the bottom of his chin as she continued “and there is some new clothes for you, it is about time the Cullen’s gave into the summer wardrobe”

As always, her presence struck him. It had always been easy, comfortable, relaxing. Jasper loved the way her joy would flare to life when he smiled at her, a look that was usually reserved only for her. Alice knew that, of coursed, and he also knew she loved it. Ever since the day they’d met, Alice had been the only one for him. She was the only person in his life that mattered enough to warrant such an expression. It wasn’t that Jasper was depressed really. But he went through so many emotions every day. He was constantly bombarded with the feelings of everyone around him. Every minute of every day his body was swirling, bending to the will of everyone around him. Alice alone stood above that. Her presence was a joy rather than a hindrance. She wasn’t constantly worrying about someone else the way Edward did Bella. She knew he loved her, she was constantly in tune with his future. Alice knew in advance if anything bad would be coming their way. She wasn’t the same emotional creature that Rosalie was, and he loved her for it.
While Alice toyed with a loose thread on his shirt, Jasper allowed his head to lull back against the sofa. As his head dropped into a more relaxed position, his arm move from beneath her knee’s and curled around her body, tightening, pulling her closer to him. Jasper allowed himself to get lost in her optimism, joy, love, and absolute comfort she felt in his presence. When he’d first met her, and felt that hope, felt this very thing take over him he’d been shocked, in complete disbelief. This had been something he hadn’t felt until meeting Alice. Feelings so pure weren’t felt by soldiers. Jasper never wanted to go back to that life, never wanted to lose this.
“They would approve of you thoroughly.” Jasper agreed. The females, such as Maria would have wanted her for their armies. The men would have wanted her for many reasons. If Alice had been in his life back in his days of war, it wouldn’t have been hard to keep them from taking her. Jasper was respected enough by everyone he worked with that they wouldn’t dare oppose him. Even if they didn’t Jasper knew he’d have fought anyone tooth and nail to keep her. He still would. Not that anyone bothered. A relationship between two vampires wasn’t fickle, and wasn’t something easily ended. Not often at least. Jasper and Alice had been together for fifty eight years come June. That time felt like nothing to him. Jasper still felt as if they’d only just met.
The two of them had passed the bar by eight years of when many human couples would exchange vows once more. Half a century. For humans, their lives were nearly over at this point. They only came to know this level of comfort and understanding just before their path together would end. But that wasn’t the case of Jasper and Alice. They had forever. How many more half centuries would they spend together? Thoughts had only just started forming when Alice mentioned her drive home. Jasper’s blonde brows furrowed together. His head tilted upward, and their gaze locked. The question was formed in his mind before he spoke it. Jasper knew Alice would see it coming. She would know his distaste already, even if he kept the comment to himself.
“I do know how you love it…but must you drive so recklessly?” Jasper inquired, trying to keep his voice from betraying his true concern for the situation. She wouldn’t get hurt. She was a vampire, she was untouchable. Jasper knew as well as anyone that Alice could hold her own. He’d personally seen to her training. But it didn’t stop him from hating the idea…from loathing letting her fight anyone. He wanted her to be safe, far away from any such thing. But she wouldn’t have it, and he knew that. Jasper would allow Alice anything she wanted, but his concern was always voiced. No wonder she thought him a worrisome fool.

In the years they had spent together, the moments they had shared and the words they had said had made Alice so in-tuned to Jasper’s every movement. So much so, that she did not need Edwards annoying gift to guess the reasons for most of his actions. As his body relaxed and his firm arms brought her closer, Alice knew he was reveling in her emotions. Her optimism, her joy and her love every emotion that ran through her when they where alone, was what he was currently tasting, like some fine wine. Alice knew that her emotions sang to him, as much as Bella’s blood did to Edward, it was what connected her to him. Her hope fed him in a way, giving him a sense of purpose as he did to her. So when he brought her closer to his stone chest, Alice thought bright thoughts. ones that could only lighten her emotions. She thought of when they first met, the way he trusted her with one touch of the hand and all the imitate moments that followed.
“Good” she replied absentmindedly still playing with his hand, though her thoughts where slightly different. Alice was not sure if she wanted them to exactly approve of her, as she did not exactly like the very idea of them. The marks on Jasper’s body where always a sore reminder of what he had been through, and what he had done. Though Alice’s love blinded any resentment she might have towards him for his role in the war, she did not exactly think extremely highly of the people that pushed his to it. The dominance and lust for power seemed very inhumane to her and though without them she would not have her Jasper, Alice knew she would never feel totally comfortable with happened in Jasper’s past, and the people within it. Even if they would accept her, Alice had a slight feeling that they would be a bit like Aro and only accepting her because of what she could see, rather than who she was.
Alice had rolled her eyes before he had even uttered a word about her careless driving, he sounded like Bella or even worse Edward. She knew where the thought behind the concern was coming from, he wanted to keep her safe, but he should have learnt by now that it would take more than a car-crash to hurt her. Still as she looked into his eyes, she could not help but smile, contemplating – just for a moment – what a great father he would have made.
In all the years they had been together children had never crossed Alice’s mind. She knew she was not human, and she had no recollection of what it was like to be human and to have certain desires, like having children or getting married. However now, as Bella had crept slowly into her life bringing with her, her humanity, these points had began to seep their way into Alice’s little head, especially when he made little comments to do with her safety. Alice could not help but quick flashes of an older Jasper, playing with children in the back-garden, caring for them as he cared for her, protecting them as he did her his little wife. It was silly thoughts and she often dismissed them instantly as she thought of how funny their children really would turn, with two parents with such diverse personalities.
“At least I don’t drive like an old granny on a Sunday afternoon” she teased back, ignoring his serious tone as she poked fun at his driving. “Though that car…it is has to be driven fast, it is like having an Emmett and not being able to use your power to beat him at chess. You should try it”

Jasper reveled in that underlying sense of understanding. Over the years he and Alice had spent together, that feeling had grown more and more, now it was a part of her core, it was wrapped around their connection, their love. Alice understood him, there was no doubt about it. For a while he’d needed to explain himself, but not any more. Alice knew him as well as he did. His reasons for silence was obvious to her. Long ago, he’d explained how he loved her optimism, her sense of hope, joy. So few of their kind felt that sort of thing any more. Many vampires lost the ability to be truly fascinated or happy with life once they were changed. Rosalie, for example, hated being what she was. It effected her whole being, even if she didn’t know it. But Alice didn’t remember being human, not that her life was all that great as one. She loved what she was, and thus, she was the happiest of the Cullen clan. Of course Edward in the past three years could rival her…but that wasn’t reason enough to make Jasper abandon Alice.
“You don’t sound as if you truly think that.” Jasper informed Alice. “Which in all rights you probably shouldn’t. Maria would have loved having you work with her. The men in the army would have thought you too beautiful to let go…and we both know how the Volturi feel…” He stated matter-of-factly. He was glad to be away from such people. They were so tiresome, so predictable. Jasper had hated his life in their presence. He’d only found that life could be a joy a century after he’d been born…when he had finally met Alice. For a moment he thought back on that day, and smiled. He was lucky that Alice had accepted him the way she had, that she’d been able to ignore everything he’d done. To him it seemed that he was, by far, getting the better deal in their being together. He got her, and she was simply stuck with him.
After he’d mentioned her driving, Jasper was shocked to feel something in Alice that he never had before, nostalgia. At this, Jasper lifted his chin, and looked at Alice. His hand tightened briefly around the one playing with his, then slackened. Even though it would have been nice to simply understand what she was thinking, like Edward would have, Jasper was fairly certain Alice would tell him what was on her mind if only he asked, so he did.
“What are you thinking?” He inquired softly. It wasn’t often that Alice thought about what could have been…what had already passed. She wasn’t a nostalgic creature. Usually she was quite content to live in the here and now. Alice loved being a vampire, she loved their life. Jasper had never had reason to feel differently.
“Not everyone has the police chief as charmed as you do, Alice. If I were caught speeding that badly he’d likely impound your Porsche. Is not driving slowly more appealing than that?” He suggested, managing not to feel offense as she poked fun at his driving. He knew Alice loved him regardless. Truly, driving fast was fun…and it didn’t bother Jasper so much if he was with Alice as it did when he was only looking on. But he was more commonly the passenger than the driver. “You should try driving race cars for a living.” Jasper suggested lightly. As appealing as the idea may be, they knew she never could. Becoming famous for such things would make her face known, remaining inconspicuous would be impossible. Fame wasn’t an option for their kind.

“Not exactly” Alice responded honestly, looking up her other half knowing that he had sensed her dishonesty in some from or another, and she did not really know why she had not voiced her opinions in the first place. Jasper and her where connected and nothing she could say would ever truly offend him, not to mention he already knew her thoughts about her past, so it could not have been hard to guess he real answer. Still Alice was not really sure she wanted to talk about it, as it was a sore point to her. Not because of what he had done, but it was hard for her to think of all the pain and suffering he had been through to get to her, when all she had done was wonder alone for a while. Though she did not exactly wish she had been there with him, Alice still wished she could have been some comfort to him in those days, as the thought of him alone … well it was not something she wanted to think about. As long as she had him know, that was all that mattered.
Shifting herself slightly, so she could nestle herself just a little closer to him, she responded. “I bet she would have died from excitement to have me, same as Aro. Though the chances of men getting anywhere near me, never-the-less letting me go, would never have happened. I believe a certain honey-blond, six-foot something, over-protective fool would have stopped them” she teased, kissing his neck lightly. “Plus it is not that I would have not wanted to be there, you know if you where there I would be there too, it is just…so immoral. Not to mention; they would have never been to keep us there, I would have seen another life other than the one they offered and we would have left.”
Giving his hand a little squeeze back, Alice knew he had picked on her slightly nostalgic feeling. She knew it was not like her, it was more an emotion that Jasper would have expected from Rosalie, but his word and Bella’s impact on her life had taken control of her mind for that moment. Alice had rather hoped Jasper might have ignored it, but she could sense his curiosity through her vision and knew the question was imminent. However Alice was at a loss of how to answer, as the thought of what might have happened in their relationship if they where human never really came up. They where both happy with their lot, he was happy to have her, and she knew nothing better than what she had now, so there was nothing to miss. Though as the question was finally posed, the truth seemed the only best way forward.
“I was imagining you as a pop, with fading hair and a blond moustache” she teased, meeting his eyes. “Do you think I would have made good football mom, with my four-by-four for the school run?” Smirking lightly at the though, Alice imagined them as one of those comical couples that where portrayed in the many sit-coms on the television, and she could not help but laugh. Alice loved her life, and it was only made the better with Jasper, and her family in the picture.
Laughing a little more at the idea of Charlie giving her ticket, she stopped abruptly at the idea of her car being impounded. It really was not a nice thought for her, and even though Alice knew she could buy another, there would not be chance of driving it, they where not portrayed as that rich. “We could always take Edwards posh car for a joy ride, I am sure Charlie would take great pleasure in crushing that car” Alice joked, at the idea of Charlie’s vendetta against Edward; it was so refreshing to have something not thing he was some perfect teen. “I doubt Edward or Carlisle would allow that, still it would be so much fun, maybe we should go find a race-track give my car a proper spin.”

Their eyes met, and Jasper could faintly see that look, the one like a child caught with their hand in a cookie jar. It was faint, ridiculously so, but still it was there. It was a silly thing to focus on. Neither was truly offended by any such topic. Even if she didn’t like every aspect of his past, Alice knew everything, and wasn’t bothered by it enough to let it upset her. Her biggest worry on the matter was for him. If only because of that, Jasper didn’t like bringing it up. He hated Alice dwelling on such things. It hadn’t been pleasant, not in the least, but he had grown from it. Jasper had learned, and this time had been the one that had shaped the person he was the most. At one time, Jasper had hated the person he was. Alice changed that view, however. She was a very real part of him, and he loved her. Jasper was glad to be who he was, and what he was, if only to give him time with her.
“She definitely would have. You being on out side would have put us ahead of the Volturi. It would have given us an advantage one only dreamed about.” He stated. Once he really started thinking about it, it really seemed a good thing that Alice remained neutral. The Volturi already had enough of an advantage over the rest of their kind, no one needed visions of the future too. It was also nice that Alice was semi-loyal to the Volturi. That was saying, she’d side with them before ever joining an anarchist group. He’d once been a part of a rebel group, and a day hadn’t passed since he left that Jasper didn’t regret it. It had been stupid. He’d been blinded by his loyalty to Maria. Now, he respected the Volturi, and he also respected the people he’d once scoffed at. Neutral vampires, such as the Cullens, were just as great as any of the others. Maybe more so. It wasn’t easy to remain uninvolved, but his whole family managed it. It was probably Edward, Alice, and Carlisle that were most set on that idea. Which Jasper found a tad strange. It was the three of them that were most desired by the other, more large clans, such as the Volturi.
“They wouldn’t have been too keen on the idea of staying away from you.” Jasper agreed, smiling slightly as his arms tightened around Alice. “But that fool you mentioned certainly would have kept them away from you. I hear he’s a bit selfish. Never would have let a pretty lil thing like you get away from him.” Jasper told her, then fell silent as she spoke once more. “Yeah…but I’m glad you were never there. You deserve a better life than that, Alice. I’d hate to see you stuck in a world like that. I don’t want you to have to deal with that sort of thing.” Jasper commented softly. The thought of Alice in Obion was one that nearly made him physically ill. He couldn’t imagine his beautiful, sweet, perfect Alice surrounded by all those monsters. In his eyes she was perfect. Being in her presence was like heaven on earth, something he knew he’d never experience anywhere else. Obion had been his hell, and those two worlds simply should never be mixed.
“Oh, would I get a beer belly too?” Jasper inquired in a low, teasing voice. It wasn’t common for him to crack jokes of any kind. But when he did, it was commonly in Alice’s presence. He felt most comfortable, more free around her. At that moment, an image filled his mind. At that moment, Jasper could clearly see Alice in his mind. She was large, nearly twice her size, with child. She never would have been one of the women that could hide it until her fifth month. Alice would have showed quickly. She was so small, so thin, that her body never would have been able to hide the weight.
“Do you have the faintest idea how much I love you, Alice Whitlock?” Jasper asked her, his lips a few short inches from her ear. Jasper still remembered the day when she’d been given that name. Before that moment, she’d had no name but Alice. She hadn’t a memory of who she was before then. Even now, when they knew who she had been, it mattered more to Jasper who she was. Before even the Cullens were even involved, she was his better half. She was Alice Whitlock.
Jasper knew how much she loved their family. He knew that she was more than just his wife. She was Mary Alice Brandon Whitlock Cullen. Alice never had taken on the name Hale. She and Jasper had never married after that first day. Jasper had taken on the name Hale so he could pass off as Rosalie’s brother…but Alice never had. Again he wondered if she ever would. Of course, if he proposed to her again, Jasper didn’t imagine that she’d actually turn him down. But would she want to go through with it? Had it just been a silent understanding as to why they hadn’t remarried? Or was she as intrigued by the idea as he was?
“Oh I like that idea. Where are Ed’s keys?” Jasper inquired sounding happy, intrigued by the idea. It was a tone he used only when teasing. Usually, his humor was more subtle, and overlooked by others. He’d never been as boisterous as Alice was, or as outwardly emotional as Rosalie. Jasper generally preferred to keep his emotions to himself, even if that was impossible at times. Perhaps it was his power that made him so keen on the idea of not dumping his emotions on the rest of the world. He’d never analyzed it, and didn’t intend to now.

Alice closed her eyes for a moment, just to refresh her thoughts. The darkness engulfed her, as she could see nothing, just the backs of her eyelids. In the back of her mind, visions danced around like fire running along a dry piece of wood. Still the knowledge of what had past, kept her from getting a straight mind back. She laughed lightly as Jasper spoke, talking about how much of a prize she would have been. Still the idea of it was a nice one, even though Alice knew where she would have grown up, she would have not been there long, she would have seen another life, and taken Jasper’s hand and ran not looking back at what we had left. But Alice was not, and it was a sore spot for her.
Moments later her eyes opened, her thoughts right back on track. Alice did not deal with what had been, she saw the future and that was what she lived for. Who cared if she had not saved him earlier, all that mattered was that he was safe and with her now. Nothing would ever change that. “I doubt I would have been that special, there are ways to blind me” her voice said, an odd sensible tone in it, one that surprised her, and made her wonder if Rosalie had injected her earlier with her spirit. Though as Jasper’s voice rang in her ears again, his smile completing her, suddenly everything seemed in place. “Really now, would they all have wanted their fortunes reading?” Alice teased, knowing that he meant other things, but she had never seen herself as something to be desired. She was just Alice, she was little, cute and nothing of what men wanted, she was nothing like Rosalie. Still Jasper was allowed to be biased; he was her other half, her one true love. So Alice excused his delusions.
“Really now” her little voice sounded, as she put a finger to her lips her face full of mocking. “You see I hear the little thing, was more than happy to have him take her all to herself. So he was excused, plus I heard she had a thing for blonde” smiling, a little laugh echoing from her throat as Alice stroked a piece of his honey blond hair out from his eyes, the hair that she loved. “So do you” she said lightly her little fingers moving down the side of face, liking the feeling of his soft, cold and hard skin against hers. “You would have got it a lot quicker if I was there” Alice said trying to sound bright about it all, as she knew that Jasper thoughts on the matter of her being there, if only for a week, sickened him. It was just what he was, he was overprotective. Really Alice could never blame him; all the horrid things he must have seen…well she knew neither of them would have wanted the other to face that.
“No” was her answer, her lips curling back into a smirk. “We could not have that, designer clothing does not allow for pot bellies or beer bellies.” Alice could not help but laugh, the idea of it all seemed so distance and so comical that all she could do was laugh. To imagine her Jasper as anything but the stone man that, held onto her, was simply comical to her. “Edward on the other hand, he would have one. We would have to have a room over the garage where he could grow old, clinging onto his virtue waiting for his perfect women”
Alice felt his breath, before she heard his words as he whispered them in my ear. It had been a while since she had been referred to by that name, Alice Whitlock. In this life she was Alice Cullen, that is how people knew her, all but one. Jasper, even though her true name had come to light and Alice fake name took over, he still saw her as his wife the one who shared his surname, even when it left her mind it was still very important to him. He was old-fashioned, like her brother, he believed in the way things where than how they where becoming now. It was just another way they differed, and yet made just as perfect for each one another as before.
“Hmmm let me think about this” Alice said sitting up from his chest, where he held her. Gently she raised her hand to her chin, gently stroking it, mocking somebody who was trying to figure out a rather large mathematical problem. “This much” her voice chimed a sarcastic tone to it, as her face lit up with mischief, as she sifted my body to face him. Alice held her hands up and held them about thirty centimeters apart. Knowing full well that Jasper’s love for her was far greater.
“Really” her eyes suddenly where alight with joy and a little shock, as Alice thought he would dampen her ideas. However he had done the opposite and actually happy about the idea of taking Edwards car for a joy ride. “I don’t know, but I could have a quick look, to see where we are going to find them” was her response, as she closed her eyes to watch them searching. It did not take long, and soon her eyes reopened smirking widely “Nice Edward. He has hidden it where nobody would ever go; he has hidden them in a Hanson CD case.”
